PENDANT LAMPS AS A STATEMENT PIECE
A pendant or pendant lamp is often the central element in the room and shapes it in a decisive way. With a pendant lamp, you can express your personal style – be it classic, modern, or extravagant. This makes a pendant or pendant lamp a statement piece that needs to be carefully selected.
WHAT QUESTIONS SHOULD BE CLARIFIED BEFORE BUYING A PENDANT LAMP
Before you decide on a particular pendant lamp or pendant lamp, you should ask yourself a few questions. Depending on the answer, one model or the other may be the best choice for you.
- At what height should the pendant lamp be mounted?
- How long must / may the connection cable be?
- For which room should the pendant lamp be?
- Which light source should be used?
- Single flame or multi-flame?
- What special functions are required?
AT WHAT HEIGHT SHOULD THE PENDANT LAMP BE MOUNTED?
Firstly, it depends on the room height. For example, old buildings with their usually higher ceilings offer more scope than new buildings with a classic ceiling height of 240 or 250 cm.
It is also important to ask whether the pendant lamp should be mounted above a table or freely. When mounted freely, it must hang high enough so that even tall people cannot bump their heads.
Some pendant lamps, such as the Dentsy model, are height-adjustable and therefore particularly flexible in use.
LENGTH OF THE CONNECTION CABLE
Depending on the height of the room and the desired mounting height, as well as the position of the electrical connection, it is necessary to choose the appropriate cable length for connecting the pendant or pendant luminaire.
In some pendant lamps, such as the Marthy model, the cable can be pulled into the cover of the suspension, so that it does not hang disturbingly in the room. Another option is to deliberately keep the protruding cable visible and thus set a design accent. In any case, cable management should be thought through before buying a pendant light.
SINGLE OR MULTI-FLAME PENDANT LAMP?
Depending on the size of the room, the layout of the room and the desired lighting intensity, a single-light or multi-flame pendant lamp may be the best solution. For larger rooms such as the living room, for example, a multi-flame pendant or pendant lamp is ideal when using a warm light source such as incandescent lamps or LEDs.
SUITABLE BULBS FOR PENDANT LAMPS
When choosing the right light source for your pendant or pendant lamp, the following criteria must be considered:
Which light sources can be used in the desired pendant or pendant luminaires? Pay attention to the information in the "Bulbs" field on the respective product page in the shop. In some pendant lamps, the bulbs are permanently installed and cannot be replaced.
What is the energy consumption? Please note the information on power consumption and the energy label on the product pages. For example, a pendant lamp with the energy label "A" is more energy-efficient than a lamp with the energy label "D".
How long is the lifespan? With a maximum of 1,000 operating hours, incandescent lamps have a significantly shorter service life than halogen lamps (4,000 operating hours), energy-saving lamps (10,000 operating hours) or LEDs (50,000 operating hours).
What light colour do you want? Incandescent lamps, halogen lamps and LEDs provide a warmer light than energy-saving lamps. Which light colour and luminosity are required depends mainly on the type of room as well as its size and layout. For example, warm lighting will be more likely to be appropriate in the living room, while sufficient lighting is most important in the kitchen.
SPECIAL FUNCTIONS FOR PENDANT AND PENDANT LUMINAIRES
DIMMER
A dimmer offers the possibility to adjust the brightness depending on the situation. Some pendant lamps, such as the Doro model, offer a touch dimmer that makes it particularly easy to adjust the brightness.
REMOTE CONTROL
It becomes even more convenient if the pendant lamp can be controlled by remote control. For example, the Augusto model can be dimmed by remote control, and different lighting colours can be adjusted.
On the respective product page in the shop, pay attention to the technical data indicating whether a remote control is included.
MEMORY FUNCTION
A memory function is ideal for pendant and pendant luminaires with different operating modes, such as with dimmers or with different colours. This allows various configurations to be saved, which can then be easily called up at the touch of a button – for example, for a cosy dinner in the living room.
In the case of pendant and pendant lights with memory function, such as the Doro model, this is indicated in the technical data on the product page in the shop.
